Multiple Tooth Extractions

Some tips when multiple teeth are extracted
For patients, the removal of multiple teeth during a single visit is not an enjoyable situation. It's also not an easy task for the dentist. Generally, when multiple teeth are removed, the patient's mouth is being prepped for dentures. If so, the jaw will need time to heal before the denture can be placed.

If a patient has multiple teeth extracted, the following may be experienced. Swelling is likely both inside the mouth and around the eyes for at least the first two days. The area around the eyes may also become discolored, which can be helped by a warm compress. The throat may be sore because the muscles in the mouth near the extraction site will be irritated. The corners of the mouth may be dry and cracked because the mouth was stretched during surgery.

A follow-up appointment is usually needed within 48 hours. Discuss any lingering post-surgery symptoms with your dentist at that time.
