Impacted Tooth
Surgery may be required to extract an impacted tooth
An impacted tooth occurs when there is insufficient room in the dental arch to accommodate a tooth's growth. Surgery may be required to remove the tooth.
When an impacted tooth is extracted, there can be mild discomfort and swelling.
A cold compress will help alleviate some of the swelling. If your dentist prescribes a pain medication, it should be taken as directed. Patients should avoid chewing on the side of the extraction for 2 to 3 days following the procedure. This will encourage faster healing.
